Deep Breaths

It has been confirmed.

We're having Thanksgiving Dinner at our house this year.

I really don't do well with house guests. Even family.

Obsessive cleaning has begun.

Meal planning is in full swing.

The anxiety is already in full force.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

Until next time . . .

Garnish the beautiful meal you are making with festive sprinkles of xanax. Works every time.

And it always makes me smile/empathize/feel less lonely when you write something that once again shows me I am not the only one.

And my word recognition is 'renteduc' which is awfully close to rent a duck... which might be entertaining at a 'fowl' family dinner... just sayin'.

We do a huge turkey-day party at our place every year, this year we'll have 25 people.

My secret? Make sure you've had a couple of glasses of wine, eggnog, bourbon - whatever your drink is - before everyone arrives. The stress level goes down and the fun level goes up.

And don't kill yourself cleaning, it'll just need to be done again the day after. ;)

Have fun!

Now see, I hate traveling. Strike that, I hate traveling to see family for holidays. But, I adore my sister and James is so over the top excited and I get to meet my new niece so all so all is forgiven. This year.

And to clarify one more point. I love traveling.

Hang in there! I don't do too well with family gatherings either but I find that a few things do help...
1. Cook, or pretend to, so you can escape to the kitchen if you need to and to ensure you get to eat all your favorites.
2. Take up handwork for after dinner. You can be there without really being there if you don't want to. Just look engrossed in your project.
3. Have a code word so your partner will know if you need to step outside and have some calming down time.
Skip the cleaning. Just use lots of candles.
And have a happy Thanksgiving!

You can always do what we do...just make grilled cheese and french fries for dinner and 1 of 2 things will happen....Either people will decide they are not going to come back for thanksgiving next year or meal preperation and clean up will be a breeze. Actually, that kinda sounds win-win for the cook. LOL!

No, no, clean AFTER they leave!

Teacher Tom is right - you clean AFTER they leave. Go ahead, clean the bathroom and then use candles and ambient lighting and you're good. Wine never hurts either! You'll do great and I hope you can relax enough to have fun too.

You will do great! Think about the person you know who has the messiest house and the friend you have who really can't cook. Then, perhaps you will start feel like a sparkling clean, gourmet chef in comparison.

... At least, that strategy has worked for me in the past...

Ohhhhh, I love Ami's suggestion.

I always get stressed when a ton of people come to our house, too. I wish I could just be a gracious host and not work myself to the bone. I wish I could just enjoy it all.

I'm sure you'll do way better than I do!

Happy Thanksgiving, friend.

We are on our own this year. No company, no place to go...and I'm loving it!
I hope that you all have a very happy Thanksgiving!

Blessings,
Michelle
